Our body’s remember.
Our body’s hold the past. We cannot release this holding with our mind. We can improve our mindset, work on letting go of 'the story', yet our body knows and unless we take this into account - that our body retains a living impression of any tension, stress, or trauma it has lived through- and work with ourselves at this level -the level of the body - it will continue to hold.
TRE is a way for you to access your innate design, activating a natural bodily release response to finally discharge what you’ve been holding onto.
Once you begin to release you will become less tense, less reactive, bodily aches and pains can cease, stuck mental patterns will shift and you will feel clearer, lighter and freer within yourself.
It is a simple, gentle yet profoundly transformative and healing practice that you will be able to continue on your own at home when needed, after first learning the in’s and out’s with a competent TRE instructor.
Niamh has devised a distinct method of instructing that incorporates her own personal embodied knowledge of the brain body system, which allowed her to miraculously heal her disabled leg overnight, and combines it with the practical technical knowledge of the TRE practice. What is TRE?
Wild animals recover from trauma by tremoring, to complete the fight-flight they were in before they froze. As the animals body trembles it discharges tons of stress chemicals which otherwise get frozen in the body. TRE activates this same release response present within us.
TRE stands for Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises. The practice comprises of 7 simple exercises that safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension and returns the nervous system back to a state of calm balance.
It is a way to release from the body, held charge, that has been collected and stored throughout life experiences.
These charges accumulate in the body, one on top of the other over time. We are then experiencing life and reacting to life through a body that is holding.
Often time when we approach our own healing or inner-work, whether our hope is to heal trauma, tension, stress, anxiety, chronic pain, inflammation, tightness in the body to name but a few, we approach it from a rational or mental stand point. You do 'X' to accomplish 'Y'.
With TRE we adopt a different approach, trusting in our body's intelligence to work through what it needs to work through, asking the mind to take a backseat.
We are not trying to figure anything out. Our body knows best. Our body releases the charges we have held, in whatever sequence it sees fit. There is no story. And we create no story.
It is a practice that once learned well, can be continued by you as and when suits your needs, or when life takes its toll. It is an incredibly easy and useful tool to allow you to access the body and release with ease

What a TRE Session is like…
It can be strange to experience your body releasing with no conscious effort from your part. The 7 simple exercises activate the release but your body then begins to follow its own rhythm. The less you get involved, the more the release unfolds.
One often wonders if they are making the movements, or if it’s the body. In time it will become natural for you to surrender to your body’s release mechanism.
Releasing may be experienced as tremoring, shaking, vibrating, bouncing, swaying, through sensations such as heat and cold, feelings of electricity or sometimes even emotions.
When a person begins TRE it is normal for them to encounter blocks to releasing. You have trained your mind and body to hold - not to release. Niamh will safely guide you through resistance to experience the full release.
Most people experience disconnection within their bodies ie. the various parts are not communicating with each another as one efficient and effective organism. This becomes apparent in TRE as a person normally experiences a release in an isolated region of the body, for e.g. the hips. As the sessions progress, more parts of your body begin to switch on and release, communicating with each other and releasing as one unified whole and integrated organism.
You are in full control throughout the session and can stop it at anytime. It is you who is allowing the release, and it is you who can choose to pause it.
TRE is a gentle practice. We are looking to create an environment of trust and safety, so that the body feels guided to release.
Niamh’s Unique Approach
After cycling through many practices Niamh found TRE to be the most effective to bring her beyond the symptoms of PTSD as it works directly with the body, surpassing the mind and the tendency our egos have to direct a practice a certain direction, that ultimately keeps us stuck and cycling.
Our body knows how to release better than we do. So how do we allow it?
Niamh’s methodology includes beginning to see that your body sees you as it’s best friend. It’s been looking out for you since day one. It holds all the hurt so you can move forward. Even when it becomes full to capacity and you don’t function as well, it still tries to power ahead, for you. Even though we think we may be ready to let it go, there are parts of us that are afraid to and our mind projects fears. And so our defence systems will flare as we try to enter the body - UNTIL our body is fully convinced of our capability to hold space for it. So how we do we get to that point?
Niamh has become a master at befriending the body, spotting and skillfully guiding one beyond the defence systems the mind and body have put in place, and creating an environment of trust that one feels safe and in control to allow the body to release. She has devised a method of instructing that incorporates her own personal embodied knowledge of the brain body system that allowed her to miraculously heal her disabled leg overnight, and combines it with the practical technical knowledge of the TRE practice.
In training in TRE with Niamh you will gain a thorough understanding of your own personal defence systems and how to work through them. You will experience the importance of allowing the body to lead, and not the mind. You will learn how to become the guardian of your body, instead of the body being your guardian, and so allow for the most effective release.
The most important thing to become aware of with TRE is that you will not re-experience traumatic or hurtful memories. You will only experience involuntarily physical sensations and movement.
Gentle is best. Niamh has understood from her own healing journey, that the shocking or impactful moments that created the stored bodily impressions require the exact opposite to release them, and paradoxically happens to be the quickest way to fully discharge them from the body. With this in mind, Niamh has put together a personal training program that works at the pace of the body, not the mind, and will leave one fully capable, competent and secure in continuing TRE practice at home by oneself.
This bodily release mechanism is innate within you. You were born with it, but as it was not recognised or encouraged it became dormant. And so TRE is a tool for life. You will switch back on this mechanism, and learn how to access it when you need or desire. During a training program Niamh expertly works with you through the complexities that have covered this mechanism, as well as begin to lift the heaviest first load from your body clearing the way for your own self-paced journey.
